Repolarization Phase at Various Sites of the Right Atrium
نویسنده
چکیده
By means of a suction electrode method, the time course of depolarization and repolarization was observed in the in situ exposed right atrium of dogs. Under normal conditions the end of repolarization at various sites on the atrium occurred after the QRS spikes, and therefore, the To wave should be inscribed after and not during the QRS spikes. The concentric spread of activation originating from the S-A node has been confirmed. The region of inital excitation does not become the initial focus of repolarization. The initial focus of repolarization is different from animal to animal, and this focus cannot be associated with any special cardiac tissue. The process of repolarization occurs concentrically from an initial focus that is not limited to any specific region of the atrium. ADDITIONAL

Atrial tachyarrhythmias and repolarization changes induced by discrete activation of dorsal mediastinal cardiac nerves in canines.
BACKGROUND Chronotropic "vagal responses" elicited by high-frequency stimulation have been used to identify atrial targets for ablative treatment of atrial tachyarrhythmias (AT), whereas an anatomic approach consisting of extensive ablation of the ganglionated plexus areas has been proposed as an alternative. Therefore, there is a need for precise delineation of juxtacardiac nerves involved in ...
متن کاملMechanism underlying initiation of paroxysmal atrial flutter/atrial fibrillation by ectopic foci: a simulation study.
BACKGROUND The mechanisms underlying paroxysmal atrial flutter/atrial fibrillation initiation by ectopic foci from various locations are unclear. METHODS AND RESULTS We used parallel computational techniques to study an anatomically accurate 3-dimensional atrial structure incorporating a detailed ionic-current model of an atrial myocyte. At the single-cell level, upregulation of the L-type Ca...
متن کاملAtrial Fibrillation Dynamics and Ionic Block Effects in Six Heterogeneous Human 3D Virtual Atria with Distinct Repolarization Dynamics
Atrial fibrillation (AF) usually manifests as reentrant circuits propagating through the whole atria creating chaotic activation patterns. Little is yet known about how differences in electrophysiological and ionic properties between patients modulate reentrant patterns in AF. The goal of this study is to quantify how variability in action potential duration (APD) at different stages of repolar...
متن کاملDispersion of atrial repolarization in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation.
UNLABELLED To study the role of the dispersion of atrial repolarization (DAR) in the genesis of atrial fibrillation (AF), monophasic action potentials (MAP) were recorded simultaneously from a catheter at the high lateral right atrium (HLRA) and a catheter moving around the high, middle and low lateral right atrium (RA) the high, anterior and posterior septal RA and the RA appendage in 15 patie...
متن کاملRegion-specific, pacing-induced changes in repolarization in rabbit atrium: an example of sensitivity to the rare.
OBJECTIVE In subsets of patients paroxysmal firing of ectopic foci in pulmonary veins or coronary sinus is an important cause of atrial fibrillation. This appears to represent a rare event overriding a dominant sinus mechanism to alter the rhythmic firing of the atrium. Hence, we tested the hypothesis that a rare stimulation pattern might alter the myocardial substrate, making it more susceptib...
